Understanding Caching on Our Website
We want to provide you with the best possible experience, and to achieve that, we use a technique called caching. We want to help you understand what caching is, why we use it, and how it affects certain sections of our site.
What is Caching?
Caching is like a short-term memory for our website. It allows us to store copies of certain pieces of information so that when you visit a page, it can load faster. Think of it as saving your favorite recipe on your fridge door instead of looking it up in a cookbook every time you want to cook.
Why Do We Use Caching?
- Speed: Caching helps our website load faster by reducing the time it takes to retrieve information.
- Efficiency: It reduces the amount of work our servers have to do, allowing them to handle more visitors at once.
- User Experience: Faster load times mean a smoother and more enjoyable experience for you.
What is Cached on Our Site?
We cache specific sections of our website to ensure you have a quick and seamless experience. Here are the details:
1. Front Page Announcement Text
- Cache Duration: Up to 1 hour
2. Site Header Text
- Cache Duration: Up to 1 hour
3. Auction Group Information
- Cache Duration: 1 minute for active and upcoming auction groups. 5 minutes for completed auction groups.
- Purpose: Auction data changes frequently, so we update this cache more often to provide the latest information as soon as possible.
4. Auctions In Auction Group
- Cache Duration: 25 seconds
- Purpose: Auction data changes frequently, so we update this cache more often to provide the latest information as soon as possible.
How Does Caching Affect You?
- Up-to-Date Information: If you update certain sections of the website it will take a 1 minute to an hour to show the changes on the website.
- Improved Performance: By caching key sections, we can provide a faster and more responsive website experience.
So if you have saved changes to an auction group, announcement text, or site header text, it might not show up right away. Please be patient and the changes will appear later.

Sample questions someone may have asked:
Hi, I made some updates to the content on our site, but the changes aren't showing up right away.
James
I posted a new announcement on our front page, but the old one is still showing up. I understand the cache duration is up to an hour, but is there a specific way to expedite this process if we need the update to appear immediately? Regards, Emily
Can you explain how long different sections of the site are cached? I'm especially interested in how often the front page announcement and auction group information are updated. Also, is there a way to manually clear the cache if needed?
Thanks, Tom
The auction group information on our site is not updating as expected. I made changes a few minutes ago, but the old details are still visible. How often is this information supposed to refresh? Is there a way to force an update?
Best, Lisa
I updated the header text on our website about 20 minutes ago, but the old text is still showing up. Is there something wrong with the caching system? How can we get the new text to appear?
Thanks, Mike
We are trying to update our announcement area but are having trouble. I have deleted everything there to start from scratch and saved, but the edits are not reflected on the home page, the text remains. It's been about 10 minutes so far. By the time you get this hopefully it will have caught up.
Thanks! Sarah
